What do you know about Solar Power Plants?
Maybe some of us know that Solar Power Generation is a renewable energy that can generate electricity from solar energy, then what kind of solar energy is used? Actually, the energy generated by the sun is divided into two, namely heat energy and sunlight energy, well for this Solar Power Generation utilizes solar energy by using solar cells as solar energy converters into electrical energy.
Solar cells or so-called Photovoltaic (PV) is a direct conversion system that converts sunlight into electricity without the help of a machine or anything (Hosenuzzaman et al., 2014). Photovoltaic (PV) was first observed by Alexandre-Edmond Becquerel in 1839, then in 1946 the first modern silicon solar cell was invented by Russel Ohl (Sharma et al., 2015).
Sunlight consists of photons that can be converted into electrical energy. In Solar Cells there are two connections between two thin layers made of semi conductor material, each layer known as a P-type semiconductor and a N-type conductor. At the time of photons about solar cells the energy absorbed from the photons will be given to the electrons to release the self of the semiconductor N. In spite of these electrons leaving the hole in an area left by the electron called the electron-hole photogeneration, since at the PN junction there is an electric field E, the photogenerated electron is attracted towards the N semiconductor as well as the hole attracted towards the semiconductor P If both semiconductors are connected to a cable and given a load it will generate an electric current (Suriadi and Mahdi Syukri, 2010).
Electricity generated by solar energy is a DC voltage (unidirectional), whereas to produce electricity that can be used for everyday needs like electricity from PLN, this solar cell must be supported by a component that can convert DC voltage (unidirectional) into electric voltage AC (back and forth), the component is Inverter. Inverter is a power electronics component that serves to convert DC voltage power (unidirectional) into AC voltage power (back and forth).
In addition to the inverter, there are other components to store the energy produced by the sun ie the battery. Batteries must also be supported by BCR or BCU (battery control unit) used to adjust battery charging current as solar cells receive sunlight, monitor battery charge, and stop charging when the battery is full. This is because over charging will make the battery become hot and can damage the battery cells.
Solar Power Generation is now widely used for remote areas that are difficult to reach by PLN electricity, this is a Government program to support the 35000 MW program. Electrical Installation Solar energy is suitable for alternative energy that can reach remote areas that have not received electricity.
On 14 September 2017, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Mr. Ignasius Jonan attended the Professional Discussion Forum held by alumni of MM UGM in Jakarta under the theme "Energy Sustainability Strategy Management", at the event Mr. Ignasius Jonan who is familiarly called with Mr. Jonan presented about Power Completion Strategy Plant 35,000 MW, the strategy is taken with the addition of EBT plant, one of them with the addition of Solar Power.
The use of Renewable Energy as electrical energy is a rural electrification acceleration program utilizing the use of new renewable energy sources (EBT) as a source of energy for the supply of electric power.
Mr Jonan also said that there are currently 2500 villages that are still in total darkness, to overcome this ESDM has a target to illuminate undeveloped villages, especially the village that is still dark within 2 years (2017-2019), through program Solar Energy Saving Lamp (LTSHE). The LTSHE component consists of a 3-watt Ultra-efficient Light Emiting Diode (LED) equal to 25-watt incandescent bulb, Lithium Energy Storage Pack (Lithium battery), and energy management chip. Solar Energy Saving Lamp (LTSHE) can be up to 6 hours, 12 hours or can operate up to 60 hours.
Solar Power Plant is not only used for remote areas, currently existing urban buildings that use PLTS such as homes, offices, and villas, usually they use PLTS Hybrid system with electricity PLN, as an alternative energy when the electricity goes out and to save energy , saving PLN electricity payment. PLTS system is now growing, let alone PLN has opened the path for the installerThe advantage of this ongrid system is that it can save PLN's electricity bill and save the land used for solar cell because of its installation on the roof, but the ongrid system can only be used when there is sunlight, because it does not use battery, so the electricity from solar energy can be stored, but users do not have to worry, because if there is excess electricity from solar energy can "export electricity" to PLN can even be re-imported, in accordance with the Regulation of PT PLN (Persero) Number 0733.K / DIR / 2013 on Energy Utilization Electricity from Photovoltaics by PT PLN (Persero) Subscribers, so the PLTS users of ongrid system who want to export the electricity from solar energy must replace KWH meter for the import-export of electricity provided by PLN. The replacement cost of imported KWH meter is charged to the customer.
However, if the customer does not want to conduct an export-import electricity transaction, the parallel operation of electricity from solar energy with PLN electricity is not charged, only it must apply to PT PLN (Persero). Electricity from solar energy that menggukan ongrid system will be extinguished, if the electricity goes out.
The use of electricity from solar energy is being developed by the government, this one renewable energy is very suitable as an alternative energy to overcome the villages that are difficult to reach by PLN electricity, not only that, electricity from solar energy is very fit to be used as a saver electric bill PLN for people in urban areas.
