Centhini Fiber

As the organizers explained in writing, Serat Centhini was a major work of Javanese literature composed at the beginning of the 19th century, with a long poem genre composed in the form of a song. Centhini Fiber was conceived by Crown Prince of Surakarta, Duke of Anom Amangkunagara III who later occupied the throne with the title of Sunan Paku Buwana V.

After becoming king, Sunan Paku Buwana V requested three poetry poets, namely Ranggasutrasna, Yasadipura II, and Sastradipura to continue writing stories about everything about life in the form of tembang macapat. Centhini Fiber was written for approximately nine years, from 1814 to 1823 AD.

The contents of Fiber Centhini include history, education, geography, architecture, philosophy, religion, mysticism, prophecy, tricks, immunity, symbolism, to flora, fauna, and art. In this book there are also reviews of erotic treasures. This text can be regarded as an encyclopaedia of Javanese life until the early 19th century.

In the past 10 years, Serat Centhini has appeared in Indonesian translations, shorter English versions, novelizations, dance, theater, photography, travel pilgrimage places and culinary reconstructions contained therein. All these activities show a high appreciation of Serat Centhini as the classic book of Javanese culture.
